EA DLC Unlocker v2 / Mac

Today I'm going to introduce EA DLC Unlocker v2 / Mac and show you how to use it.

Introduction

Let's look at anadius's unlockers for EA games. On Windows, use EA DLC Unlocker v2. On macOS, use the separate EA DLC Unlocker for Mac package. Both are covered below; the Windows setup.bat is not a Mac installer.

Do you need the DLC files?

An unlocker makes the game see the DLC as owned, but doesn't download its content. If the files are already included in the base game, unlocking can be enough. Otherwise, install the matching DLC files too; check the game's forum topic for its folder layout and version.

Useful links

Windows · EA DLC Unlocker v2

  1. Download the Windows v2 archive from anadius's page and extract the whole folder. Close the game and fully exit EA App or Origin.
  2. Run setup.bat. Choose Install in its menu and follow the prompts for the detected client. If EA App and Origin are both installed, the script detects EA App.
  3. Choose Add/Update game config, then select your game from the list. Repeat this selection for each supported game you want to configure.
  4. Install any separate DLC files in the game's folder. The Sims 4 packs and kits need their files too: the unlocker doesn't download them.
  5. Start the client, then the game, and check the installed content. For a Steam copy, this method only applies to games that also run EA App in the background.

Mac · EA DLC Unlocker for Mac

  1. Download EA DLC Unlocker for Mac from the Mac section of anadius's page. Extract its ZIP by double-clicking it in Finder with macOS's default extraction tool.
  2. Control-click prepare DLC Unlockers and choose Open. This creates an unlocker app for each supported game. If macOS blocks it, consult the author's linked macOS instructions for this specific file.
  3. Install the DLC files your game needs. Just like on Windows, this tool does not provide them.
  4. Before every play session, run the unlocker app for that game, then EA App, then the game. The Mac version must be started each time. The author's instructions say to acknowledge the EA App port 3216 message with OK if it appears.

After an update

On Windows, an EA App update can require running Install again. For new DLC, update the game config and add any new content files. On Mac, the unlocker normally updates its game config itself; download it again if needed. Updating the unlocker doesn't install the DLC files.

And on Linux?

The v2 package also provides setup_linux.sh. Run it from a terminal in the extracted folder and choose the Wine/Proton prefix containing EA App if several are found. Then use Install and Add/Update game config as on Windows.

How to remove it

Windows: run setup.bat and choose Uninstall. Linux: use the same option in setup_linux.sh. Mac: quit the unlocker and delete the generated unlocker apps.
